Contemporary Fine Art of Tauba Auerbach

Contemporary Fine Art of Tauba Auerbach

For the American artist Tauba Auerbach, shifting forms from the expected seems to be a major focus of her work.  Although a few years old by now, for her Whitney Biennial 2010 exhibition, Tauba produced a series of large scale paintings that were a meditation on what is real and what is painting.  She started with pieces of raw canvas and folded them into several configurations, then took the resulting ragged canvases  laid them flat, and applied paint to the surface with an air gun.  The result is a mixture of trompe l’oeil of the folds and the real manipulated canvas.
